A Limited-Edition Pikachu Promo Aims to Be Super Effective Against Resellers
Marking the launch of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, a unique collaboration is underway. The Pokémon Company alongside London's Natural History Museum will launch a temporary store featuring exclusive items. Fans can look forward to products like plush toys, art prints, and writing supplies that are drawing from the museum's theme. For collectors, however, is a limited-edition Pikachu card, given as a free bonus for the pop-up. This shop is scheduled from the physical location to its web counterpart between late January and mid-April.
Pokécology Behind the Collaboration
Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a much-awaited tome filled with stunning artwork that show Pokémon in their natural habitats. It's essentially is what a Pokémon Professor could produce after adventurers provide field notes, alternatively a naturalist's journal might have created had the famous islands were populated by flying-types rather than finches. A key appeal lies in the book's serious approach, treating Pokémon as worthy of scientific study. Writer Yoshinari Yonehara and artist Chihiro Kinoshita both hold doctorate degrees in animal behavior and ecology.
What Makes This Special Card Different
The company regularly to issue special edition cards celebrating major tournaments or brand collaborations. Many such promotional cards often feature the iconic mouse Pokémon that acts as the series face. The factor setting this new museum card however, is the distinctly bigger dimensions. While exact measurements were not publicly disclosed, availability will certainly be highly restricted, and fans limited to only a single card per purchase.
Limiting Speculator Activity
According to an official announcement, some of the pop-up items may also be available outside the museum walls. However, broader availability is slated for select retailers within the UK. Importantly, collectors will not be able to acquire this promo through the official web shop. While speculator demand is inevitable, it appears they will have trouble hoarding mass quantities this time around. For those unable to attend, there is an alternative like fossil-themed display headed to the Windy City in the coming months.
"All profits of sales from the museum store and its online store, which covers Pokémon products, go toward the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. That encompasses the efforts of hundreds of researchers dedicated to conducting studies and finding answers to the planetary emergency," the statement says.
