Fans Demand Detainment of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the pop star are urging that a individual who leaped a barricade and grabbed the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A circulating video shows the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing photographers and lunging at Grande while the actors proceeded down a yellow carpet accompanied by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly pulled the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being taken in", though official papers revealed that he was scheduled to attend court on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
Pattern of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram account contains videos of him disturbing other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last December.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is obviously a punishable act," commented an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over Grande's Well-being
Many fans blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented a further comment on Instagram.
A number of supporters also criticised event staff at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while some requested digital services to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Event Details
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande seemed startled when she was approached by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of attendees had assembled in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had waited for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The film, to be premiered on the 21st of November, is the sequel of a two-film adaptation of the well-known stage production Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected friendship between two contrasting characters.
The production itself is a adaptation of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful film of the previous year in the UK, and received 10 award recognitions, securing two for best costume and production design.
