Citizens have assembled throughout the country to commemorate the second anniversary since the Hamas-led offensive on that fateful day in October 2023, as negotiations continued in Egypt over a conclusion to the war in Gaza.

The attack saw in excess of 1,200 people dead and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most most lethal day for the Jewish community since the World War II.

Israel answered by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, according to the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its figures are considered reliable by the UN and other global organizations.

"Our aggressive adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," the leader stated on Tuesday.

He also promised to "realize all the aims of the war: the release of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas regime and the assurance that Gaza will never again create a risk to Israel".

Memorial Gatherings Across Israel

The national leadership delayed formal commemorations until October 16th - after the completion of the festive season - but ceremonies still were held throughout the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the families of people who died in the Hamas incident was organized in Tel Aviv. Put together by the families themselves, it was broadcast across Israeli television channels.

Hours earlier, a moment of silence was respected throughout the country.

Peace Discussions in Egypt

Simultaneously, the conflicting parties' negotiating teams met in the Egyptian tourist destination of Sharm el-Sheikh for a continuing round of mediated discussions to review the terms of the proposal.

A high-ranking Palestinian official knowledgeable about the negotiations indicated that an night meeting of negotiations started at 7 PM local time.

The official said the morning session finished without tangible results, because of conflicting views over the proposed Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas wants to guarantee Israel does not restart fighting after the opening period of the deal.

He commented that the talks are "difficult and have yet to achieve any real breakthrough," but mentioned that facilitators are making efforts to reduce the differences between the conflicting groups.

Essential Points in Talks

  • An enduring halt to fighting
  • The exchange of the captives still held by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Arrangements for relief supplies deliveries
  • Future administration of the region

Public Reaction

In Tel Aviv's public square previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling lived through the assault on the outdoor event, where many attendees were murdered and numerous more were taken hostage by Hamas fighters - shared: "No place feels like home now and until all the hostages come back none of us will be secure."

"When we see everybody home returned, we can breathe anew. Then we can begin to recover," she continued.

Outside the leader's official dwelling in the capital, people gathered to demonstrate their backing for the relatives of the hostages. Israel says 48 remain in detention in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be living.

Activist a participant remarked: "We must do any agreement required for the captives to return. But we sincerely need guarantees that we will be protected."

Research now frequently demonstrate that around the majority of the population desire the conflict to end in exchange for the liberation of the abducted.

Gaza Situation

At the area of the music event, mourners assembled to remember the victims.

From there, the sound of military attacks and shelling could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where observers reported the intense Israeli shelling continued.

In the main city, air and artillery strikes were documented in the morning of that day in the western district, Rimal and locality neighbourhoods and in the eastern area of that sector, as well the camp to the north-west.

"As the evening comes, the anxiety appears with it," evacuated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose young son was died by an Israeli air strike earlier, explained.

"My family are fearful of the bombings. During nighttime we are sleeping together, clinging, notably my smallest child who puts his head on me throughout the night."

"Every second we check the reports to see the situation. And I'm afraid that this ceasefire will not be completed and that the war will come back to us."

Humanitarian Crisis

The medical facility in the urban area announced it had received the remains of several people by the daytime, including several killed in an Israeli bombing in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Another medical facility in the southern city of the city said two more dead people had been delivered. One of them was lost his life by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get aid to the southern area, health workers reported.

The region's health ministry said twenty-five of the {territ
