Latest Oil Plant Assault Shows 'Zero Safe Places in Russia's Far Hinterland'
Ukrainian UAVs have hit Russia's Bashneft facility in Ufa, positioned around 1,400 km from the Ukrainian border, causing blasts and a blaze, according to a source in the Ukrainian SBU.
This marks the third SBU far-reaching assault in the region in the recent weeks. Such strikes demonstrate that there are no safe places in the far hinterland of the Russian Federation.
Zelenskyy Calls On US President to Facilitate Truce in the Conflict
The Ukrainian leader urged the US President to mediate a ceasefire in Ukraine in a call on the weekend.
"Provided that a hostilities can be stopped in a single area, then surely further hostilities can be stopped as well, covering the Russian aggression," the President said, hailing the US President's "outstanding" Gaza ceasefire plan and requesting the President to influence the Russian government into negotiations.
Russian Assaults Kill Victims in the Country
Moscow's assaults on Ukraine claimed the lives of five people on Saturday and cut power to parts of Ukraine's southern Odesa area, as stated by local sources.
A pair of individuals died in a church in the town when it was targeted, per municipal sources.
In the Russian border region of Belgorod, a lorry operator was killed by a Ukrainian strike, according to local officials.
Energy Recovery Efforts in the Capital
Efforts carried on on the weekend to restore power in the Ukrainian capital, after Russian attacks.
Power had been restored to over 800,000 residents by Saturday and the major private energy company said the key efforts to repair the grid was concluded though some outages persisted.
Air Defence Actions and Drone Interceptions
Ukraine's anti-aircraft systems intercepted or jammed 54 of seventy-eight Russian drones deployed towards Ukraine overnight, the military reported on Saturday.
The Russian military authorities stated it eliminated 42 enemy UAVs from Ukraine over Russian territory.
Cuba Refutes Accusations of Deploying Troops to Ukraine
Havana on Saturday rejected US allegations it has sent troops to engage in the hostilities, while declaring officials in Havana "are without accurate information about citizens of Cuba" involved "voluntarily" or "in the military forces of the conflicting parties".
The foreign ministry in the capital said 26 Cubans had been sentenced to incarceration ranging from five to 14 years for mercenary involvement since last September when information spread of Cuban nationals being deployed to the front in the conflict.
