Forecasters are reporting an icy commencement to the new year, with wintry precipitation anticipated over large parts of the UK. Celebrants are advised to bundle up as near-freezing temperatures are predicted for New Year's Eve.
Hogmanay Plans Proceed In Spite of Warnings

Moving into Friday, snow alerts have been issued for Northern Ireland and from Wales, across parts of the north-west, the West Midlands and reaching London and most of the south-east of England.

Readings Set to Drop Even More

Meanwhile, serious cold weather health warnings have been activated for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to remain in place until noon on 5 January, with the mercury forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C.
