Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for concerns to be asked about his position after a further heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received significant support from the top,” Slot stated.
“It's important to change things and secure a win obviously but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Player Reaction
The manager highlighted familiar failings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period like this with performances so bad.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
