It's difficult for Australia to set fresh records.

The top summits have long been mastered.

This is the team that has won seven Cricket World Cups, plus another six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed over three years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, targeted by the peak baggers, are what's still available for a squad that has accomplished all there is.

The fact it required until Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase above 300, reclaiming their record for the highest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the bowling attack that have represented Australia over the past 50 years.

It's challenging for their batsmen to possess a record if never given the possibility.

Ultimately, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy getting an opportunity to create her newest gem.

Originally famous as the teenage relative of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after Australia couldn't capture either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has witnessed all through 15 successful years since.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the final and was declared player of the series. She guaranteed her country would not fail again.

The question of whether this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display can be debated.

Some will argue the case for the pressure of a final. Others can counter with the test that comes when facing a record target and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was much more difficult to anticipate.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 came as she led the batting statistics, but this innings was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"For those following me in the nets, it has been a disappointing period because it appeared I lacked timing whatsoever," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you enter the playing area, your competitive instincts activate and you completely engage with the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has continuously been her major advantage - and an irreplaceable characteristic in succeeding famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, out to the 22-year-old seamer in every game, but here that only provided Healy's spark.

A single was taken off the opening delivery and after that the batsman was underway.

"The possibility to go out there and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment in that aspect, sort of got me going," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 deliveries - her swiftest at a World Cup - and her century in 84 deliveries while she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three maximums.

By the time she was dismissed Australia needed 66 more at one run per ball - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"To chase 330 is new territory so I'm pleased we have the assurance to accomplish that now," stated Healy further.

"Ideally we won't need to repeat it but, should it happen, we believe we can achieve it."

That comment will be the last competing nations at this World Cup should hear.

In recent days a feeling they will win from any position has only strengthened - this victory following victory over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may probably be guaranteed.

During that phase they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of damaged tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at an important competition.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she regretted not playing despite the injury.

Yet even as she later admitted those injuries have postponed plans to retire, this World Cup is expected to be her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a global event as captain.

Success in India would bring her to the top of her last major obstacle.
