The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Express Displeasure Regarding Size Updates

Vinted users have been reacting angrily due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.

The popular resale platform has revised its measurement guidelines for women's and children's garments without notifying every member regarding the update.

Social Media Backlash

Numerous buyers and vendors are posting online claiming that product pages now present a modified sizing category versus the original listing as a result of the reclassification.

Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with similar services.

They have suggested members to examine their items and update the measurements by hand if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.

Measurement Approach Changes

Before the change, the sizes had both one number and one letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.

The revised method features a letter and a range like S/UK 8-10.

In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.

Shopper Accounts

A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".

"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.

Another user, based in Glasgow, stated items she posted featuring size 14 markings were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.

"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they may become frustrated," she explained.

Manual Updates

A different user, from Derby, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".

"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and platform income has been essential for me since losing part of my income," she said.

Platform Context

The service features exceeding 100 million users, including 18 million in the UK.

It has emerged as a preferred choice to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.

This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change to the app has proved unpopular: last year, Vinted reversed a change to its shipping options following member complaints.
