This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the holiday season,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: joyful, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
